Debt you don’t own

This typically occurs with credit cards for which the person being sued is just an authorized user for the credit card. The primary card holder is the only person who is liable for charges on the card, therefore he/she is the only person who can have a judgement for wage garnishment rule against themselves.

Sometimes the authorized user can choose to pay off the credit card debt because the credit scores of every user on the card are usually affected when various penalties are placed on the balance of the card.
